Top Reasons You May Feel Dizzy in the Morning

Updated: Jan 16

When we wake in the morning, we hope to feel so good that we want to jump out of bed and seize the day! However, sometimes, we wake up feeling the complete opposite, and it’s challenging to get out of bed at all. When you wake up, do you feel a dizzy feeling in your head? Does it seem like you can’t clear your head? Could dizziness be a symptom of another condition? Here are some of the top reasons you may feel dizzy in the morning.

Dehydration

Drinking water is vital to your health and wellness. When you don’t get enough water, you can experience dehydration. Since most people need to get at least eight hours of sleep a night, that means you’re going eight hours without any water. If you’re not a regular water drinker, you are more at risk of experiencing dehydration than a person who drinks an adequate amount of water. Dehydration can cause symptoms like fatigue, dizziness, and dry mouth.

Make sure you drink at least eight cups of water a day to stay healthy and avoid symptoms of dizziness.

Low Blood Sugar

Low blood sugar can occur in people with different stages of diabetes who’re taking medication to treat the condition. Having low blood sugar is scary, as it causes symptoms such as:

  1. Dizziness

  2. Quick heart rate

  3. Shaking and sweating

  4. Mood changes

If you’re experiencing dizziness accompanied by the above symptoms, you may have low blood sugar. It’s best to have a can of soda, raisins, sugar or honey, and crackers always on hand if your blood sugar dips.

Vertigo

If you’re feeling extreme dizziness in the morning, you may be experiencing vertigo. However, vertigo is more than just a dizzy feeling—it may feel like the entire room is spinning, affecting your balance. Some people may feel like the floor is tilting or they’re floating. These things cause nausea, vomiting, and more. Vertigo may last seconds or even hours, affecting your quality of life.

If you experience any of the above symptoms, vertigo may be a result of an underlying condition. Visiting a chiropractor may help relieve your vertigo. Talk to your doctor to learn which options are best for you.

It’s essential to take care of your health by maintaining hydration levels and knowing all your symptoms to determine the top reasons you may feel dizzy in the morning. Check with your doctor before taking any medication to treat your dizziness.
