3 Ways To Encourage Employees To Drink More Water

Drinking enough water is essential for proper body functions. Even if you don't feel thirsty, you can feel the effects of dehydration, such as unclear thinking, fatigue, and headaches. Therefore, keeping personnel hydrated is a simple and effective way to improve your work environment. Discover three ways to encourage employees to drink more water.

1. Keep Fresh Water Accessible

One of the top benefits of having high-quality water in the workplace is that it helps improve employees' concentration. And when water is convenient to grab, people drink more of it. Therefore, you should place water coolers in common areas. If you have a larger office, consider having a second water cooler in a separate location. You can also provide water at meetings to support employees' well-being and comfort. Workers will feel and perform better at work if you help them stay hydrated with accessible, high-quality drinking water.

2. Gift Reusable Water Bottles

Another way to encourage employees to drink more water is to give them reusable water bottles. Keeping a water bottle at their desks will help employees be mindful of how much they're consuming. As a bonus benefit, reusable bottles are better for the environment than single-use plastic and Styrofoam.

Choose a stylish and functional water bottle design, so employees are more likely to use it. Consider branding the water bottle to promote team camaraderie and a sense of belonging.

3. Run a Wellness Challenge

One of the most fun ways to promote healthy habits in the workplace is to run a wellness challenge. You can have employees set individual goals based on their body's needs or create one plan for everyone, such as drinking 8 cups of water daily.

According to the Institute of Medicine (IOM), adult men should drink 13 cups of fluid daily, and women should drink about 9 cups daily. However, these numbers are a guideline because the right amount depends on a person's physical activity level and personal physiology.

Give employees a digital or physical calendar to mark off every day they meet their water-drinking benchmark. Participants should only count the volume of water they drink and not include other beverages, such as tea or coffee.

Keeping employees well-hydrated is a worthwhile goal for any business. Place fresh water in convenient locations, give employees reusable water bottles, and consider running a wellness challenge to support your employees' health.
